About Sue Zimmer, Ceramic Artist
I took a pottery class in high school and fell in love with clay, took some pottery classes in college and then took a hiatus while I focused on a business career. Then several years ago, my New Year’s Resolution was to learn to bake bread from scratch, and after a few attempts to work with yeast and flour, I re-discovered clay and changed my focus from baking to making. Drawing from my high school and college art classes, I set my sights on functional vessels, and Stone Pony Pottery was born.
Being an animal lover and outdoor enthusiast inspires me to design functional & decorative items for people with pets, and to incorporate bits of nature into my work. You’ll find that much of my pottery is organic, irregular in shape and size, and is intentionally created to be one-of-a-kind. I am an avid equestrian and serious dog lover so my pieces are often horse- or dog-focused but I embrace opportunities to create a variety of other items, too.
My studio is in Pewaukee, WI, and I share it with my mom and our dogs. Together we create, laugh, eat chocolate, and solve the world’s problems. It’s peaceful and wonderful. I love to make functional art that is beautiful enough for display and durable enough for everyday use, and I am drawn to clay as a medium because it connects me to the earth. I strive to be environmentally responsible, conserving and implementing production methods that minimize harm to our planet. I hope you’ll enjoy using what I have made --- it is all food safe, dishwasher and microwave safe.
